Speechie Behavior Clip Chart {Freebie!}

August 17, 2013

I love my clip chart. I’ve been using it for two years now and my kiddos love it. Best of all, it’s implemented district wide, so it’s nothing new for my students when they walk into my speech room-they have the routine down, which makes my job easier. Don’t worry though, even if you’re the only one using it, the clip chart is a super easy system to implement and perhaps even some of the teachers you work with will love it!

So…what is a behavior clip chart? A clip chart is a vertically (or sometimes circular) chart. Each student has a clothespin with their name on it. As my students walk in, they grab their clip and place it on Green-“Ready to Learn.” If a student is doing something fabulous, they get to move their clip up, if they are demonstrating negative behavior, they get to move their clip down, which makes Mrs. Allison sad =(. I’ve found it to be a simple, yet powerful visual in my room.
If you go on TeachersPayTeachers and search for “clip chart” you will find 100s of products. The Speech Bubble also made a super cute one HERE.  Here’s an example of a circular chart that some of my teachers use (Mrs. Wheeler’s First Grade):
The only thing I don’t like about the circular wheel is that my students who are doing extra work don’t get to move their clip. They simply stay on Green, which isn’t very motivating, or wouldn’t be to me, at least!
So…I finally made one to suit my needs. Here’s what I did:
1. Download the free clip chart HERE. You know how I love my folks who leave feedback! 🙂
2. Laminate it and (*optional) buy a foam board for more stability. My good friend, Christina from Sugar and Spice gave me this idea when she made her super cute clip chart.
3. Cut it out and paste it to the foam board

4. Hang it in your room with a cute ribbon!
Here are all my beautiful clips just waiting for their owners to return to school!
Because I have horrible handwriting (awful!), I typed my kiddos names out on those clear labels with a corresponding color next to their name. Then I attached them to a clothes pin. This actually saved me time in the long run and they are legible :-).
Then, I attached a little color chart next to their pins to help them find their name. One of my rules is that the colors should stay next to each other. A good way to work on sorting and it makes finding their pin a snap!
Here is my system!
I hope you find it helpful! You can download this item for free HERE and don’t forget to check out the rest of my store on sale Sunday and Monday for the Big Teachers Pay Teachers sale!!!

Is there any way to change the color scheme? My room is black, red and white to go with my mustache theme. Just wondering. I guess I can always print it in black and white. This is really cute and I love the clothespin system!

Hi Nicole, I love your clothes pin system and I also purchased your articulation word wall, it looks great! Just a question….what size labels did you purchase that were narrow enough to fit the clothes pins for your student names?

    Thanks! Julia

      Hi Julia!
I just printed them on clear labels and cut them down to size. It was a bit tedious but satisfied the OCD in me lol!

First day of year 11 for me!  This is one of my f First day of year 11 for me!
This is one of my favorite verses and such a timely message for my students AND me!
This year my husband and I made the decision to homeschool our first grader. I was NOT thinking I would ever be a "homeschool mama" and I'm still not sure how it will all get done with me working part-time but here I am, praying for strength, and patience, and energy, and discipline, and thinking, "perhaps this is the moment for which I have been created?" 🤗

So if this year is full of uncertainty for you as well, know that He’s ☝️got this and I'm praying for the both of us, that we would shine brightly, and make the most of EVERY moment. 💗
P.S. (Because I know I'll get comments, I work at a private christian school, so I'm totally allowed to put verses on my door!) 🙏🏻

It’s my go-to when starting out articulation therapy. Simple, one syllable words that students are able to sound out provide a framework for phonological awareness skills which studies say also help increase articulation skills. 👏
