Hello there! I’m Nicole and I live in the wonderful state of Ohio, where the weather is 70 degrees one day and 30 degrees the next. I’ve been an SLP since 2010 (gasp!) and believe this journey is one God placed on my heart from the beginning. Even on those terrible days, there is no doubt in my mind that God called me to this profession for my students.
I love getting to know my readers and wish I could chat with you over a hot chai tea latte, but since our computer screens make that impossible, I’ll share a little about myself with you here:
Back in 2010, when I was a green, freshly graduated SLP, I began working as the lone SLP in my district. That’s right-all 13 grades and I loved every single one of them! However, as you know, even with other SLPs in your district, our role can be a lonely one, and this was especially true being the only one. My desire to reach out and collaborate with other SLPs like you led me to start writing this blog Speech Peeps in 2012 and here we are now!
So where am I now? Last year, my husband and I made the difficult decision for me to spend more time at home with my daughter (and soon-to-be-baby boy *eek!) and to work part-time in a private school. In addition, I also see a few students per week privately in our renovated home therapy room, which is a childhood dream come true for me! God sure knows what He’s doing! I continue to work as the only SLP in both of these settings so you can see how collaborating with SLPs like you is essential for me!
When I’m not blogging or working, I’m busy spending time with my family. In 2008, I married my high school sweetheart who continues to give his unconditional support in this fun little venture of mine called “blogging.” He makes me a proud SLP with his knowledge of the acronyms “IEP, ETR, SLP, RtI and CCCs.”
Expanding our family wasn’t easy for us but on April 14th, 2014, God blessed us with our little miracle, Aislyn Ruth. She is an answer to many prayers and now as a toddler, keeps us BUSY, BUSY!
Then, in 2015, God wonderfully blessed us again with another little miracle. Declan Jay was born on June 2nd, 2016.
We are loving our little family!
Our last member of our family is Toto, who has been part of this little family now for 12 years. He is the sweetest and most loving miniature poodle you’ve ever met.
Other crazy things my husband and I include renovating our old century house we bought at an auction. I’m not sure if old houses are EVER completely finished (if you have one that is finished, please let me know) because we’re still working on ours 4 years later! If you’d like to read a bit about how God has truly blessed us through this house, you can head on over to my other blog at Young Love, Old Beams.
Finally, I love Jesus. He has given me this wonderful gift and responsibility of working with His children. I hope in some way they see the light that He offers inside of me….
Thank you so much for being here! I hope to learn as much from you as I hope to share!
