This month I’m back “partying” with Jenna at Speech Room News during her Love it and List it Linky Party. The month’s topic is Articulation Apps and I know I could definitely use some fresh ones so, like me, head on over there after to check out what other bloggers are saying!
Here are my go-to apps:
This is my favorite app when working one-on-one with a student because of how simple it is organized. I primarily use it with a student in the hallway during my articulation intervention because I can literally start them practicing within a matter of seconds. It’s sort of no-nonsense app. It contains 24 decks with 40 cards each (113 cards in r deck) for the following sounds: th, w, y, h, f, v, ch, sh, k, g, s, z, l, r, s-blends, r-blends, l-blends, p, b, m, n, t, d, j. It contains simple, boardmaker-like graphics that my kiddos can relate to and features include recorded audio, voice recording, and scoring (aka data collection).
The only downside to this amazing app is that I can’t track data for multiple students. =(
This is probably one of the more popular Articulation apps out there. It’s great for group-therapy because you can keep track of the data for more than one student. My kids love picking an avatar for their picture and the app tries to use real-life pictures. Cons: Setting up each session takes a little longer because you have to set up the individual student and it costs a pretty penny if you buy it full-price ($38.99.
I like this app because it provides a different approach to articulation practice than just drill and say and my kiddos have a lot of fun with it. It comes with 72 scenes and over 1200 practice words. There are 4 different ways to target sounds:
1.Find the hidden items: Allows children the opportunities to listen to targeted words and find them on each scene.
2.Tap and say it: Children tap on the items on the scene, which are isolated allowing the therapist to track and monitor their productions.
3.The movie theater: Children get the opportunity to listen to a story using the target words.
4.The production room: This is the activity that allows children to either create their own stories, record them and continue to practice.

Cons: This app works best in longer sessions. I don’t often use this app with my 5-10 minute articulation intervention kiddos because I find I don’t get the amount of practice in a short amount of time.
