New Find: 9th Planet Social Skill Videos for Teens

Guess what I’ve been doing? For months now, I’ve been ~~working~~ slaving on a huge social skills curriculum for middle and high school students. It will contain everything imaginable to set up social groups and provides over 20 fun and engaging lessons (with all materials included). As you can tell, I’m pretty excited about it. However, I still need a week or two to put the last finishing touches on it.

In the meantime though, I’ve been doing a lot of reading up and researching on social skills. I came across this one I just had to share.

9th Planet Social Skills Videos

Okay, before I go on any further, I think you should know that my middle and high school social groups consist primary of students with autism who LOVE anything electronic, Star Wars, or video-game related. I was having a hard time engaging them…and then I found 9th Plant.

In a nutshell, “Interplanetary explorer Tad Shy, from the 9th planet, became stranded on the 3rd planet. In order to survive he must learn to assimilate with the native Typicals”

The videos revolve around “Tad Shy,” a highschooler who actually does have autism and his robot friend, Bob, who teaches him strategies for dealing with the “typicals” AKA… “us.”

I knew I used up all my allowance this year so I saved up and bought the Conversation I Social Skills Set. It contains the following short videos for $35:

My students loooove them! They are videos that one: interest them and two: apply to them. When my students learned that Tad Shy was on the spectrum, they wanted to listen to him even more!
