App Review: Learning Verbs {and Giveaway!}

February 16, 2016

app reviewToday I’m reviewing an app by Language Concepts called Learning Verbs that focuses on learning a set of specific verbs.

The app is very simple, which is one reason I love it for my little ones! Open up the app and you are immediately on the home page:

image

You can choose up to 22 verbs to target or…(and this is my favorite part), you can add your own photo. This would be great for a group of rowdy preschoolers to demonstrate verbs such as “jumping,” “spinning,” “marching,” etc.

I also like the options included. You can choose to turn off or on features such as text, audio and feedback, as well as how many cards to use as choices.

Once you are working on a verb, you will see a screen like this:

image

It’s super simple, but great for those little ones who don’t need a lot of distractions.

The one con I would note is that some of the pictures are stretched, making them look a little strange.

My friends at Language Concepts are generously giving one away! Enter the rafflecopter below and let me know how YOU target verbs for a chance to win one!

*Note: The developers of this app provided me with a free copy of this app in exchange for a review. The opinions are all mine though!

I frequently use photo cards to teach verbs, but as we all know, your students think everything’s better if you use technology!

We take pictures of others doing things and talk about them with a focus on verbs. We do activities and crafts talking about what we are doing along the way. I find many of my students can label many things with nouns but have few verbs!

I use photo actions in picture description tasks. I also use the EET blue-do with older kids to generate as many possible functions/actions.

I have saved a lot of cards (birthday, Christmas) over the years. I have the kids talk about what they see on the cards to elicit verbs.

When possible, I like to act them out/or talk about verbs as we are doing them in therapy. Also through books. There are a couple of apps from Hamaguichi Apps that I also like to use. Thanks for the review and giveaway!

I use photos or line drawings when I can, supplemented with classroom activities (things the kids are already doing). With the kids who don’t quite get verb vocabulary through pictures yet and we act them out, observe what other kids in the class are doing.

First day of year 11 for me!  This is one of my f First day of year 11 for me!
This is one of my favorite verses and such a timely message for my students AND me!
This year my husband and I made the decision to homeschool our first grader. I was NOT thinking I would ever be a "homeschool mama" and I'm still not sure how it will all get done with me working part-time but here I am, praying for strength, and patience, and energy, and discipline, and thinking, "perhaps this is the moment for which I have been created?" 🤗

So if this year is full of uncertainty for you as well, know that He’s ☝️got this and I'm praying for the both of us, that we would shine brightly, and make the most of EVERY moment. 💗
P.S. (Because I know I'll get comments, I work at a private christian school, so I'm totally allowed to put verses on my door!) 🙏🏻
