Finally POSTED! After tons of requests (and something I desperately needed myself), my Preschool Screening Toolkit is finished!
A few months ago, I sent out a newsletter asking for input on preschool screenings. I love digging in and getting input from you before I posting something so if you’d like to be included on the next resource, click this link to sign up. The response was amazing! Mostly, the results indicated many of you are looking for something to thoroughly assess language, which uses real pictures, provides a next step determination, and doesn’t take a ton of time.
This Preschool Screening Toolkit follows the same format as my other Screening Toolkits with a few differences:
- A comprehensive Screening Tool to screen the areas of: Grammar, Language, Phonological Awareness, and Articulation/Phonological Processes (this is new)
- All Student Handouts are provided, PLUS a NO PRINT SCREENING OPTION to pull up on your iPad or computer to make screening quicker.
- A comprehensive “Next Step” Assessment Tool to assess the areas of: Grammar, Language, Phonological Awareness, and Articulation/Phonological Processes
- Parent letters and permissions to screen, assess and intervene, as well as student lists
Here’s why I love it:
- ALL the pictures are real, stock photos. Every. Single. One. And there are a lot! This is why the price is a bit higher than my other Toolkits.
- The No Print Option is perfect for saving ink and screening faster. Each page has a “next” and “back” button to press to keep going. I love this so much I’m considering adding a No Print Option to all of my screening toolkits.
- I chose to focus on not only screening for articulation errors in this packet but also provided a comprehension Phonological Processes screening (since I feel a lot of our little ones have these needs). And don’t worry if Phonological Processing isn’t your strongest suit. I’ve broken it all down to make it really EASY for you.
- I love having the additional option to further test. What this means is if your little one didn’t do so well on naming nouns, you can further assess this area easily.
- In case you’re curious, I compiled and built this list of skills based on Ohio’s preschool standards, various language assessments, and The Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence (https://www.coreknowledge.org/)
And here’s a few notes on this Toolkit:
- I created this toolkit for Speech Language Pathologists. SLPs have the most training when it comes to assessing areas of language and articulation so I geared this packet to them.
- These are not norm-referenced testing measures. Although they contain scoring guidelines and “loosely” created cut-off scores, they rely on your clinical judgment to determine whether a student could benefit from additional intervention. I am not responsible for any decision you make in determining student outcomes. If you believe a student should receive intervention even if falling outside the scoring guidelines, or vice versa, go with your clinical judgment.
- One decision I had to make was how much material I would include in this screening. I decided I would rather err on the side of including too much, rather than too little. If you would rather shorten the assessment and not test on a certain area, I decided to leave that up to you.
I’d love for you to check this out and let me know if you have any questions! You can always email me at nicoleallison@speechpeeps.com
