Some of the first words I heard when I entered this profession were “You’re not going to make it if you’re not flexible.” Now there’s some words of encouragement!
Over the years though, I’ve realized how true those words really are. As speech therapists (or any educators, for that matter!), we must be willing to:
- adjust our schedule 100+ times throughout the school year
- when
onetwoten techniques go wrong, pick ourselves up and try again - keep up with ever-changing educational policies and requirements
- be knowledgeable on the
yearlyweekly changes it seems that IEPs go through
So….like you, I’m learning quickly to be flexible and apt to changes. I’m taking this a bit further and making some updates on some of my most-loved products. Here’s what I’ve been doing the last month. I think you’re going to like the results! Lucky for you-if you’ve already purchased these, you’ll want to go back and re-download the “revamped version.”
1. Added a ton to my Curriculum Based Language Assessments Aligned with Common Core Standards
I just about doubled the number of standards it addresses on this document.
Here’s the kindergarten assessment. You can see how much is added.

Come as you are. Leave encouraged.
I'd love for you to join my newsletter family so that I can start sending weekly encouragement as well as access to an entire library of free resources like this Student Self-Progress Report Sheet!

February 20, 2013 at 1:40 amHi Nicole,
I downloaded your updated CBM’s for Language (LOVE the Update BTW) and noticed that you repeated “p” under the letter and sound id for grades K and 1 but omitted “i”. Should the second “p” be an “i”? I’m thinking it should because then you have all of the vowels covered. LMK – smweimer11@msn.com
Also I created separate sheets for the letters/sounds, sight word reading, sentence sequencing, sentence combining and context clues for students to look at while I have the CBM in front of me for scoring. I found that much easier and would be happy to share them with you:)
