Today I would love to give you a little peak inside my new Leveled Vocabulary Intervention Binder. It has been quite a work in progress and I finally published it yesterday. I knew my caseload needed it and from the amount of feedback I’ve received already, I can guess yours does too. 🙂
This binder is all about INTERVENTION. There is actually no data-collection in it. It’s perfect for those intervals between progress-monitoring, when we are supposed to teach :). If you are interested in data collection, my Ultimate Data Collection Binder is for you.
I have been using this product with my elementary caseload. It’s also perfect for regular education grades K-3 and intervention groups in grades 4-5.
First, let me specify that it contains over 130 pages focusing on students learning the concepts of Antonyms, Synonyms, Homophones, Prefixes, Suffixes and Context Clues.
Each skill area progresses in difficulty to make differentiation easy to implement in your groups and classes.
Another feature (that I LOVE) is that it is ink-friendly. The entire binder can be printed in black and white. Most of the binder can also be printed double-sided and then placed in sheet-protectors for students to use dry-erase markers. Once your binder is printed and assembled, it can be used as many times as you want without needing to print off more pages! (Unless you want to print some for homework, of course!)
Sections of the binder contain interactive pages, which means students lift flaps, cover definitions and use sentence strips to make learning these skills extremely VISUAL.
Before beginning any practice activities, students must demonstrate an understanding of the concept by completing three tasks. A word card is placed on top of the definition and students must complete these without looking under the flap.
- Say the meaning
- Teach a friend
- Give an example
Once a student completes a task, they color in a circle with a dry-erase marker.
If you are more visual (like me), I created this video to give you an idea of how it looks assembled.
I’ve been using it with my students and am loving how easy and effective it has been! I hope you enjoy it as well.
This week only, it is on sale! Find it in my:

November 12, 2014 at 1:01 amI was wondering, do you just have one book or do you have more than one for groups?
Nicole Allison says
November 13, 2014 at 1:16 pmYou can print as many books as you want! I just have one so my students take turns doing the activities. I’ve also had one student complete one side and another complete the other side since they are printed double-sided.

December 3, 2014 at 3:37 amWow, thanks so much for putting this together- I love it! (The video totally sold me, btw.) My supervisor gave me a list of best practices and one thing that I’m working on this year is having my kids give non-examples as well as examples. So I might have some of my kiddos do a ‘#4 Give non-examples’. Anyway, I love how you’ve spelled everything out so kids know exactly what they’re working on. And that it’s interactive is great too!
Also, is SpeechPeeps on facebook?
