Exciting news happening in the world of assessment over here! A few years ago, I created my Screening Toolkit for Kindergarten.
Many of you have reached out to me over the years and asked that I create additional ones for other grades. Well, that’s exactly what I’ve been working on!
These toolkits are perfect for Response to Intervention or to gather information through whole class screenings. Why? Let me give you a look inside:
Each toolkit screens and then assesses the following areas, with phonological awareness falling off after grade 2.
The screening is designed to identify areas within these categories a student may have strengths or needs. Here’s an example:
As you can see at the bottom, each area contains a cut-off score. These are helpful when deciding to pursue further testing. If you would like additional information in an area, you utilize the assessment portion of the toolkit. As you can see from the example above, I needed to pursue additional information in the area of “answering WH Questions.” Below is an example of the assessment to this area:
One of my favorite parts of these toolkits is that they use all real photos-no clipart. This makes the pictures more relatable to students. Also included are student handouts, answer keys, and parent letters to make the whole process of identifying students who need help easier!
*Here’s a quick note that these are not norm-referenced testing measures. Although they contain scoring guidelines, they rely heavily on using your clinical judgment to determine whether a student could benefit from addition intervention. 🙂
I’ve completed and posted the Kindergarten and First Grade toolkits. However, I realize some of you would like to buy them all and save money so I’ve now posted a growing bundle!
Because there is overlap in some of the toolkits, I’ve severely discounted the bundle. You receive 8 toolkits for only $50, which is a savings of almost 40%!
Currently, the bundle includes Kindergarten and First grade, with the rest being added throughout the year (you can check out the dates below):
Come as you are. Leave encouraged.
I'd love for you to join my newsletter family so that I can start sending weekly encouragement as well as access to an entire library of free resources like this Student Self-Progress Report Sheet!

August 18, 2017 at 5:54 pmHey Nicole! Thanks for this great product! I just wanted to point out that in your example above of the 1st grade assessment, your group of ‘why’ questions are titled ‘When Questions.’ Not sure if this has already been pointed out to you or not 🙂
Thanks again!

October 3, 2017 at 6:40 pmIf we purchase the kit now, once the other grade levels are released will we have access/ability to download the updated screeners, or will we have to purchases those at that point in time?
