Summary of this post: The Leveled Intervention Binder for Reading Comprehension is up and posted! As with all my resources, it will be 25% off for the first 48 hours (the lowest you will ever see it)!
If you’d like to see a ton of pictures and know a bit more, I encourage you to read on 🙂 To watch an in-depth video all about this resource, click HERE.
One of the big things I’ve been up to this year has been creating a Leveled Intervention Binder for Reading Comprehension. (You’ve been shown a few behind the scenes on my Instagram account, @nicoleallisonslp). I currently have a Leveled Intervention Binder for Grammar and one for Vocabulary in my shop and can honestly say they are one of my most-reached-for resources to date.
I created these binders because I needed a systematic way of teaching my students strategies that would be concrete and visual for them. And probably no skills set is more difficult or hard to teach than those involving reading comprehension. I’m sure you hear me say this about all my resources, but I can honestly say I am SO proud of this one. Teaching skills in this area is something I desperately think our students need, and educators could use support in.
Here are some of the features I know you will enjoy:
- Leveled Intervention in the areas of
- Asking and Answering Questions
- Compare and Contrast
- Main Idea/Summarizing
- Sequencing/Retellling
- Word Meaning used in Text
- Fact and Opinion
- The tasks progress in difficulty, which makes differentiation easy in your groups. As a speech therapist, I use this binder for grades K-5. Regular education teachers can use this binder in grades K-3 and with struggling groups in 4th and 5th grade. The numbers in the top right hand corner indicate the complexity of the task. Level 1 are beginning skills, Level 2 are intermediate skills, and level 3 are the most complex skills (see the example below for “Word Meanings used in Text” to see the numbers in the upper right hand corner).
- TEACHING, not Data Collection. This binder is completely intervention-based. This means it does not contain any data-collection. Instead, it contains direct teaching and interactive practice for students to master each one of the skills. If you are interested in data collection, please check out my Ultimate Data Collection Binder.
- Visual cards for all of the TEACH pages (see the word decks in the above pictures). These are perfect to have next to the student to serve as reminders and visuals as they are working through the tasks.
- Scaffolding made easy. Tasks such as finding the main idea and retelling text can be very difficult for our students. This binder breaks down each task and builds on the previous, allowing for scaffolding and increasing independence.
- As a self-contractor, I try to be cognizant of ink. Most of the binder can be printed in black and white. However, the color used in this binder has a specific purpose to serve as a visual for our students.
- Speaking of printing, I printed most pages double-sided and inserted them into page protectors creating a one-time binder for my students to use with dry-erase markers.
- Clear, easy to read font and visuals.
- Interactive Pages help students try tasks independently.
- Promotes independent work. Once the student completes a task, he/she colors in a circle. This allows the student to assess their own skills and work independently while you work with other students.
- To create a no-print binder, save to a Drive such as “One Drive” or “Google Drive” and open up in a PDF editor such as the Notability App (not included).
As with all my resources, I constantly have you and your students front in mind. I am so proud to put my name on this one and just know it will be a valuable tool I use time and time again. If you have ANY questions at all about this resource, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at nicoleallison@speechpeeps.com.
P.S. If you try any of my Leveled Binders and love them, I have a few BUNDLES set up in order to save you (or your district) big.
Come as you are. Leave encouraged.
I'd love for you to join my newsletter family so that I can start sending weekly encouragement as well as access to an entire library of free resources like this Student Self-Progress Report Sheet!
