Let me begin this post by saying how amazed I am at all the mommys out there. You have my total respect and admiration and I honestly don’t know how you do it. For me, some days I feel accomplished simply when I get the dishwasher emptied and the bed made. I’ve been MIA these last few weeks due to this little distraction…not that I’m complaining though. I am having the time of my life being a mother to this little girl.
I could honestly sit and hold her all day long and let the summer go by untouched…but I also have 64 other little kiddos I’m responsible for during the year and so I thought I’d set some goals to keep me “fresh” during these beautiful months. Those of you reading this are probably already on it and created your own summer to-do list but if not, maybe this will give you some ideas.
1. Get involved with a good book. Simply Speech is hosting her annual book club and the book, The Reason I Jump, looks fabulous! A book club is a great way to meet others and contribute your thoughts. And…you never need to think up a topic….it’s already created for you!
2. Get organized. This is a BIG goal for me this summer (and let me repeat, “BIG”). The Container Store and I are getting to be very close friends. My goals include finding the ultimate way to organize my therapy materials (post on this later-once I figure it out) and organize my pantry at home. I will feel soooo good once these goals are checked off!
*Update-I feel soooo good now that the pantry is checked off my list!
3. Start a new project. Whether it’s a craft or (gasp!) even starting a blog, I guarantee you will have fun trying it out and stepping outside your comfort zone. Mine are a few projects that involve you! Check out what I’ve been working on currently (although holding a baby and typing one-handed is much harder than it looks)!
4. Get involved with an organization. These people need you and job responsibilities often range from big (being on the board) to small (perhaps volunteering at a conference). To check out more on how you can help out your state organization, check out my post HERE.
5. Finally…if nothing else, think of your students or better yet, say a prayer for them during these months. A few of my students would much prefer being in school during these months because their home-life stinks. Think of them and ways you can make their life a little better when the school year rolls around again.
These are my summer goals. I hope, for your sake, you’re somewhere listening to the ocean and enjoying a pina colada for me. But…when you return, I hope you’ll try some of these. Have a GREAT summer!
Come as you are. Leave encouraged.
I'd love for you to join my newsletter family so that I can start sending weekly encouragement as well as access to an entire library of free resources like this Student Self-Progress Report Sheet!
